Bio

in brief

CPI aka Caitlyn is 29 years old and lives in Ottawa Canada. She started as a noise/ambient/performance artist in the mid 90s and started DJing in 1999.
Starting with spinning drone ambient and noise, she expanded her repertoire in to abstract hiphop, downtempo, IDM and electro. She is known for her "aggrssive blending" mixing style.
She has been promoting her own undergound Divergence dance parties since 2004. In 2006 she started a monthly movie series called Divergence Movie Night. Near the end of 2007, she began hosting an MP3 blog as well.
Caitlyn has won numerous awards for her community and activism work, and has received many accolades from people that are really high and enjoy her mixes. On that note, she also is a veteran of the Harm Reduction scene.

bookings

CPI plays many types of parties. From afterhours dance clubs, to vernisage art openings, to blissed out chillrooms, to breakdance battles, to fields of drone ambience, to drunken 80s&90s retro jams, to punk rock weddings, to background dinner music, to dingy warehouse sex parties and everything else in between.
Her rates always depend on the party. She loves collaborating with painters and often trades performances for artistic works. She also works with dancers, video editors, acrobats and more.
She travels off to various cities to play gigs, and will go anywhere provided a plane ticket is include in the offer.

theta states

"Theta rhythms are one of several characteristic electroencephalogram waveforms associated with various sleep and wakefulness states. When seen in this fashion, they are between 4 and 8 Hz, and involve many neurons firing synchronously, probably in the hippocampus and through the cortex. Theta rhythms are observed during some sleep states, and in states of quiet focus, for example meditation (e.g. Aftanas & Golosheykin, 2005)"
...as quoted from wikipedia.
Theta states are often observed in that special period of sleep when one wakes up momentarily and falls back in to sleep and lucid dreaming. That's where my magic happens.

jot notes

Caitlyn often plays art galas, and is always interested in collaborating and bartering with visual artists.
Most DJs are boring. Anyone can be a DJ.
The most intimate place a DJ can reach someone is between their headphones.
CPI enjoys Allen & Heath mixers and Tehcnics 1200 turntables.
She is humbled by the prescence of people that can actually play instruments.
In most of these mixes, the second half is designed first and is often the best part.
CPI is an acronum for...

I like art that reminds me of my death, and of the moment.
